(Self-paced) If you want to learn to touch-type or improve your existing typing skills, this is the perfect course for you! In these lessons, you'll use the typing.com teacher program, a typing tutorial designed for personal computers, to learn how to touch-type—that is, to type the text you read from a printed page or a computer screen without looking at your keyboard. You'll even learn posture tips to minimize fatigue and help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. With the skills you master here, you'll become faster and more confident at the keyboard
Accounting Basics
Summer Session
In this 5-week, open-entry, self-paced class, you will learn the basic principles of the accounting cycle, terminology, and how to read financial statements. Learn how to use journals and ledgers to record transactions into debits and credits, and prepare financial statements for service businesses organized as a proprietorship. Textbook: Accounting Basics: An Introduction for Non-Accounting Major; available to borrow in class, or purchase your own textbook online.
Introduction to Payroll
Summer Session
Don’t know where to begin? Start here! In this 5-week, open-entry, self-paced class, learn to balance theory and practical skills. Walk through the process of completing forms and performing the calculations necessary to process payroll. Students will master concepts and apply what they have learned by working through a progression of exercises. Case studies replicate real-world situations, giving students the experience they need to be successful in today’s workplace. No textbook required but students must bring a flash drive - 4gb minimum.
Introduction to QuickBooks
Summer Session
Start learning today! This 5-week, open-entry, self-paced, class will cover very basic accounting principles and QuickBooks skills. Students will be given realistic company examples, such as a service and merchandise company, to practice setting up customers and vendors in QuickBooks. No textbook required. Students must bring a flash drive, 4gb minimum.

Computer Basics and Beyond
Summer Session
This short course provides a complete introduction to Windows 10 and the basic computer skills that will be used on the job. Features covered include working with the Start menu, using menus and task bar, basic word processing, and file and folder management. Textbooks are available for use in class or may be purchased separately.
Word Basics
Summer Session
Learn the basics of Microsoft Word in this short course. Create, edit (copy, cut, paste), format (margins, tabs, indents), save, open, and print a variety of documents. Recommended prerequisite: Completion of Computer Basics and Beyond course or knowledge of Windows 10 and keyboarding speed 25 wpm. Textbooks are available for use in class or may be purchased separately
Excel Basics
Summer Session
Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel in this short course. Build and format spreadsheets, create formulas, enter functions, and more. Recommended prerequisite: Completion of Computer Basics and Beyond or knowledge of Windows 10 and keyboarding speed 25 wpm. Textbooks are available for use in class or may be purchased separately.
Certificate Classes
Customer Service Skills Certificate
In one week, develop confidence to work positively with customers in a variety of situations and attain customer service skills necessary to obtain and keep a job. Earn a certificate that demonstrates to potential employers that you possess desired customer service skills. The National Retail Federation Foundation Certification assessment is offered on Friday each week of training for only $50 (fee waiver may be available).

Food Safety Certificate Training
Comprehensive course covers safe food handling practices and sanitation. Successfully completing the course meets the requirements of California Health & Safety Code Section 113947. Registration required at least two business days prior to start date to pick up textbook and read before class. Fee includes book and exam. Re-test $75, if taken within one year of original Mt. Diablo Adult Education test date
Keyboarding/10-key Speed Certification
Do you need a certificate verifying your typing and/or ten-key speed? Typing and 10-key certifications are offered at no charge in our Media Center in Room D-8. See AJCC calendar on our website to choose a date and time. Sign up online or email murphya@mdusd.org. Both typing and 10-key certifications include warm-up, a practice test, and two timed tests, and are scored immediately
Basic Life Support CPR Skills Session – Hybrid Class
This one hour skills session course is the 2nd component of Basic Life Support CPR. The class meets the requirement for healthcare workers. Fee includes materials and CPR card. Important: Online coursework is required BEFORE Skills Session. Proof of completion is required and must be provided to the instructor at the beginning of class. Online course fee ($28.50) is NOT included. Students may use on campus computers
EMT Refresher and CEUs
This 24-hour class meets the requirements to recertify for EMT license in accordance with Title 22 of the California code of Regulations. EMTs who need just a few CEUs may register for specific modules if space is available. Admission requirement: copy of EMT card and current Healthcare Provider CPR card. Must attend all 3 days for Recert Certificate. Contact office for enrollment information, (925) 685-7340, ext. 6730.

CPR for the Healthcare Provider
This course meets the requirement for healthcare workers and includes two-rescuer CPR, management of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO), use of barrier devices for ventilation, and use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Fee includes book, materials, and CPR card. Important: Register and pick up textbook at least two business days before class to read required material. Please check back for more dates and times.
