High School Equivalency (GED and HiSET)

WHY GET YOUR HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY CERTIFICATE Instead of your diploma?

Students who do not have transcripts from their previous school or who need more than 60 credits to earn their high school diploma may opt to take their GED or HiSET high school equivalency (HSE) test.  The high school equivalency test is comprised of 5 subtests; Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing and Math. The GED combines reading and writing into one subtest. The high school equivalency certificate is accepted at community colleges, most career training programs and the military. Students who have received the high school equivalency certificate are eligible for federal financial aid. (See the chart below for more information about the test.)

HOW DO I prepare to pass the test?

Mt. Diablo Adult Education offers classes to help you prepare for the test. We offer classes in the mornings and evenings specifically designed to help students pass the social studies, science, reading, writing and math subtests. Students can take classes for all the subtest subjects or just for the subjects they feel they need help with to pass.

How do I Register for Classes?

All new students must complete a two part orientation session. At orientation, students will learn about our program, about the HSE test and the support services provided to our students.  Click on the blue “Register for an Orientation” button on the right side of the screen. Click on “High School Diploma/High School Equivalency/ABE” button (left side of screen) and then click on the “High School Diploma, High School Equivalency/ABE Orientation” button that opens up below it. Scroll down the page and select the date of the orientation you wish to attend. Click on “Register now” and follow the instructions. Former students should log in with their e-mail address and password rather than creating a new account.
