America's Job Center of California (AJCC) Access Point

Need help getting a job? Or improving your skills to get a job?

Mt. Diablo Adult Education offers job readiness and career search workshops and resources on campus, through a unique partnership with Contra Costa County and nine local organizations. Following are some of the services that are available at no cost to students and other participants at the Loma Vista Adult Center:

  • Résumé writing and career workshops

  • Access to job postings and hiring events

  • Computers, printers, copier and scanner available for job search

  • Access to CalJOBS, the state’s best online resource for job seekers

  • Career Assessments, matching interests and skills to career opportunities

  • Typing certification tests

  • Training and education information

  • WIOA Career Coach available

WIOA PROGRAM

Learn about the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) and how you can receive individualized career services, including employment search assistance from a Career Coach and funds for training. Start by attending a WIOA Information Session (see monthly calendar) or email Parwin Paigham, WIOA Career Coach at parwinp@rubiconprograms.org.

  • Jackson Vocational Interest Survey (JVIS)
    July 8, Room D-4, 1:30-3:00pm

    Email Andrea Murphy at murphya@mdusd.org to sign up. The JVIS is an education and career planning tool that provides a detailed snapshot of your interests and how they relate to careers. Take the JVIS and receive access to links and resources to help you learn more about the careers and training that match your interests!
     
  • How to Succeed at a Job Fair
    July 9, Room D-8, 3:00-4:00pm
    Email Lisa Franklin at franklinl@mdusd.org to sign up. Prepare for success when attending a career fair. Find out how to greet employers, tips for communication, and good questions to ask. Bring your current resume to the workshop.  
     
  • EMT Onsite Recruitment
    July 10, Multi-Use Room, 10:00am-12:00pm  
    Looking to launch a career in emergency services? Attend this “Mini Job Fair” and meet employers hiring now for Ambulance Driver positions. Featured employers include NorCal Ambulance and Westmed Emergency Services. Bring copies of your resume to the event.
     
  • Using AI for Interview Preparation
    July 15, Room D-8, 1:00-2:30pm

    Email Eunyoung Cho at choe@mdusd.org to sign up. This class will cover how to prepare for interviews with AI-generated insights. Learn how to use AI to craft strong interview responses and generate potential questions to ask the interviewer. Designed for those with basic computer skills, this session will help you prepare for job interviews with confidence and efficiency.
     
  • Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Information Session (WIOA)

  • Resume Workshop
    July 17, Room D-8, 3:00-4:00pm
    Email Lisa Franklin at franklinl@mdusd.org to sign up. Increase the odds of your resume being seen by a hiring manager, as well as what to include, what to leave out and more in this hands-on interactive workshop.
     
  • Metrix Learning
    Email Andrea Murphy at murphya@mdusd.org for more information. Metrix is an online learning system designed to help individuals upgrade existing skills or learn new ones. Metrix offers access to a wide range of courses in a user-friendly, self-paced platform. There is no cost for a one-year license when signing up through Mt. Diablo Adult Education’s AJCC Career Center. Printable certificates available upon course completion.
     
  • Keyboarding Certification Test
    See monthly MDAE-AJCC Career Center calendar for dates and times. Earn a certificate that will demonstrate your keyboarding speed and accuracy to potential employers. Take one or more 1-minute keyboarding warm-ups and up to two 5-minute timed tests. Be sure to bring a picture ID such as a California Driver’s License/ID with you.
     
  • Note: There are no fees for any of the workshops or services provided by the MDAE AJCC Career Center.
